March saw well above average temperatures and normal precipitation.

The average temperature for March was 45.7° which was +4.9° above the New Brunswick 1991-2020 average. This ended a run of three straight months that were below normal. March is a true transition month. The high temperature was a one-day touch of early summer, reaching 83° on the 29th. However, as a cold front came through that evening, the temperature dropped 24° in just 38 minutes. The low for March was 13° on the 3rd. This equates to a high/low delta of 70° for the month. Last year, March also averaged a very mild 46.2°.

Precipitation for March totaled 4.41” which was +0.01” above the New Brunswick 1991-2020 average. An intense storm system on the 5th-6th with strong winds brought 1.31” rain to Canal Walk, with a low barometer of 29.16”. Winds over 40 MPH brought down some trees in the area. Very dry conditions existed from the 7th-12th and again from the 18th-23rd with the relative humidity reaching as low as 24% here on the 18th. As a result, red flag warnings were issued during these periods for potential brush fires. YTD precipitation totals 8.10” which is -3.01” (-27%) versus normal. Last year at this time, we had recorded 15.40” (with March 2024 being the 3rd wettest statewide since 1895)
